The Meistersinger
Meistergesang (also Meistersang) is the continuation of the medieval minnesang and the poetry by guild craftsmen in the larger cities of the late Middle Ages. The master songs had biblical teaching content and were sung in the churches.
After 1500 master singing was reformed and secular songs were now also permitted.
The Mastersingers were a German craft guild of the 15th and 16th centuries that cultivated a literary and musical legacy based on medieval legends.
