Johannes Ockeghem
1410 - 1497

Flemish composer and singer. In 1443 he is mentioned for the first time as a member of an Antwerp choir.

 

He held a number of offices in the Netherlands and France; he could have been associated with Gilles Binchois (c. 1400-60) and Guillaume Dufay, and Antoine Busnois (c. 1430-92) could have been his pupil. Although

 

widely admired, his oeuvre was small over a career spanning more than 50 years, encompassing 14 mass cycles, about 10 motets and about 20 chansons. His sonorous works often reflect complicated structural
